For those not familiar with the term, TCK are adults who had lived abroad for significant periods of time and thus have intimate knowledge not only of the other cultures, but also of what it’s like to adapt to them. In many cases they had to make challenging adjustments to the new cultures and by both making and observing expat inevitable blunders, they become more culturally sensitive and adaptive. The article also provides a few case studies on what happens when executives don’t do their cross-cultural homework prior to pursuing or conducting business with foreign counterparts and some advice on what to do about it (including how to find and hire those TCK).
